Hale (George Silsbee) House is built.

1870

(ca.) One of four contiguous houses built by George Wheatland Jr., it is located at 5 Exeter Street. Its first occupant is the lawyer, publisher, and member of the Boston Common Council. Subsequent occupants include publisher William O. Taylor, who lives there after the death of his wife with his daughter for several years beginning in 1944. The building is converted to a two-family home in approximately 1955.
